CUT

Jay Surdukowski

would your heart
fall up the stairs for
me if I

named all haircuts of
the eighteenth century?

Adonis
wig of Jefferson,
Hamilton

settled with snow calm,
powdered to godshine

or busy
gorgone's isle mistress,
toss-curled snakes

men going hard for
rollicking good locks

or silky
clean a la belle poule,
topped high with

a pearled-up schooner
sailing to man flesh

knowing you:
a la victime fan,
hair pulled clear

for the blade, red thread
choked to willing throat

__

A haircut during the French Revolution that mimics the guillotine's cut, the hair worn clean off the neck and a thin crimson thread to symbolize the blade path. Who would do this? Who would love them?
