I was working with injecting drug users in the Valley when I wrote this...at the time it seemed like this sort of shit was happening, in one form or another to the people I was seeing every day. Maybe not as extreme as murder, but stuff like just got out of jail, or going back inside...hanging out, scoring, scamming, people getting bashed, people getting stabbed, or done over for their gear—that sort of thing. To be honest I remember having seen this snippet in the paper that morning about a murder in the northern suburb of Chermside...later that day I was at my desk and ended up writing this. I don't work in the Valley any more.
