BULLER'S SHIELD

The non-affected eye should be protected from infection by the application of Buller's Shield. This consists of a watch glass, securely held in place by adhesive plaster applied to the side of the nose, the cheek, and forehead. The junction of skin and plaster is sealed by a layer of collodion. The center of the glass is left uncovered by plaster to permit inspection of the eye, and a small part of the outer margin of the covering is left free for ventilation and to prevent the deposit of moisture upon the watch glass. The patient is not allowed to lie upon the non-affected side in order to avoid the flow of pus across the nose.
